Poppie Johnson's Adventure: A Connection with the Terrain

Embarking on my daily trot on the nearby Port Hills of Canterbury, I laced up the Merrell Trail Glove 7 Women's shoe, eager to put its capabilities to the test. Despite not being able to see a hand in front of my face with two weeks of solid fog, I was pumped to put the shoe to the test. Out of the box, they’re a smooth fit, and I appreciated the light green colour way as a change from the endless pink and purple hues that seem to inhabit the women’s shoe racks. Straight up the hills, the shoe had me feeling connected to the rugged terrain beneath my feet and boosted my stability and agility. 

I’ve been a fan of a low-drop shoe for the last couple of years, but this really is closer to a barefoot shoe than a low-cushion shoe. The sole is made of durable Vibram rubber compound with multi-directional lugs that not only enhances traction on varied surfaces but also contributes to the shoe's firmness. The lugs grip the ground firmly, providing excellent stability and preventing any unnecessary slippage.

What truly impressed me was the shoe's nimble responsiveness. It is an ideal shoe for rocky or uneven terrain and allows me to make quick adjustments and react swiftly to the ever-changing landscape of the trails. And let's talk about its lightweight construction—it made me feel like I was flying (remember this is a relative comparison). I never felt weighed down, enabling me to explore the trails with endurance and ease. The zero drop combines with a low stack height to give a really connected feel, my ankles were able to adjust to the terrain and I didn't feel in the same danger of rolling an angle that I have felt with other, higher stack zero drop shoes. 

Now, I must mention that the Trail Glove 7 is definitely better suited for summer adventures. Its limited insulation left my toes a bit chilly during colder months, and I’m prone to cold tootsies at the best of times. That being said, for those of us who prefer warmer escapades and encounter minimal winter slippage, the Merrell Trail Glove 7 Women's shoe is an absolute must-have, and I can’t wait to put some serious miles in over summer.

Camilla Ryan's Discovery: Embracing the Minimalistic Power

Being relatively new to trail running I am still trying to figure out what style of shoe suits me and I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to try the new Merrell Trail Glove 7. 

I was slightly nervous the first time I headed for the hills. To me, the shoe felt very minimalistic, and I was questioning if they would be right for me. The shoe is extremely light, and I was wondering what the grip would be like on our muddy trails. The Trail Glove 7 did not disappoint. The grip is amazing, better than any other shoe I’ve tried. It is super comfortable and despite being so light it provides a surprising amount of support and protection but at the same time you can feel the trail under your feet. 

It’s a shoe that has given me the confidence to push myself a bit more and has definitely convinced me that minimal shoes are the way to go.

For years now, I've always gone for the minimal running shoe, but quite often there's then a tradeoff with grip or durability. But, stoked to report that these kept me firmly on the ground (not in it) and feel pretty robust. They'll be a great addition to my growing shoe collection.
