The Pirongia Munter Challenge 2024

About the Challenge:

The Pirongia Trail Run is Waikato's community-based trail event on 16th November, offering a challenge for all ages and abilities on the mighty Pirongia maunga.​

The Pirongia Trail Run team are in it to share a good time. If you want to take on some of the course records, brilliant! You're equally brilliant if you just want to cruise up and roll down the hill. Get amongst.

​Operating under the umbrella of the charity, the Kiwi Challenge Foundation, the event is a not-for-profit initiative designed to promote active and healthy living in the outdoors.

With help from the Community Partners, the event works with local schools and youth groups to facilitate free entries for community youth. How good. Clap, Clap for the Community Partners.

The Pirongia Munter, the longest and hardest option in the event is a hard-core option, and we're bringing the epic Wild Challenge to match.

During the challenge hit any of the trails from our directory, and you're in the draw.

The points awarded from each trail you run will be the Grunt Factor of that trail.

For example, if you complete the Munter course in training, you'll get 80 points in this challenge. Or, you can hit this trail in Auckland for 3 points.

Do you give it everything in a totally tough trail, or save yourself and hit easier trails multiple times? 😉

The Grunt Factor is a measure of how demanding a run is and is shown on each trail directory page. It takes account of the distance, the nature of the terrain and the nature of the trail. The higher the number the more demanding it is. 75+ is considered Extreme.

You can run the same trail multiple times; it'll still count!

The more Challenge Points you earn the better your chances of winning a free entry to the Pirongia Trail Run.

Challenge Prizes:

We have a massive bunch* of free entries to the Pirongia Trail Run up for grabs.

Winners can choose their course/distance (Runter, Punter, Grunter or Munter**), and if you have already entered, but then win a free entry, you'll get your entry fee back!

* Massive bunch = Ten! 

** Limit of three for the Munter.
