This route is a simple out-and-back around the outside of Ngāti Ōtara park and alongside Ōtara creek.

From the trailhead gate, follow the driveway north and look for the trail that soon angles away to the right. Follow this trail, and keep left the whole way. There is one point where the pathway has some tree growth over it, and another short section which is grass with some young trees in it and the path continuing a couple of meters on the other side. But generally keep left and to the outside of the park and you can't go wrong.

Eventually you'll exit the park trail onto the creek side concrete path. There are a number of forks but keep left at all of these, with the exception of the bridges. At the first bridge encountered, continue straight ahead on the path. At the second, angle right for the short section up to the roadway and your turn around point. Then head back as you came.

If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.

There is a carpark immediately adjacent to the trailhead, at the end of Ōtara Road and near Ōtara Rugby League Football Club.

Trail Reviews

OK as urban paths go. Less trail than footpath, with autumn leaves currently obscuring the path and low trip hazards near the start of the path.
