Head west along Exhibition Drive and follow this road west into the forest. Stay on Exhibition Drive for approx. 3.5km. to the intersection with Huia Rd. Here on the right you will see the track entrance for Pipeline Rd. Follow this road to Pipeline Track, then follow signage and turn right onto Slip Track. This begins the ascent to the Arataki Visitors Centre and the finish of this course.

Plenty of native forest and native bird habitats throughout. Arataki is the gateway to the Hilary Trail and the Waitakere Range; this course skirts the lower Nihotipu Dam.

If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.

An easy walk (or jog) from Titirangi village, where there is off-and-on- street parking available. The 195 bus from Britomart also runs to Titirangi.

Easy.

This is a very simple course to navigate, it's signposted the whole way.

Perfect throughout.

Windproof jacket, Whistle, First aid kit, Cellphone, Map

None that I'm aware of until Arataki, where there are taps.

The bush can be very dry during summer, and be wary of wasps. Sections of Slip Track, in particular, can be very muddy following rain. It's a clay track with little metal cover.

Slippery steps on the ascent to Arataki can be a hazard, and be mindful of the railway line running through the bush at the top of Slip Track as it is in (limited) use. You are not permitted to run along the train line.

A cafe on site, and a caravan next door that makes fantastic ice creams! And of course, it's right at the end of this course.

Trail Reviews

Would have been there and done this many times in my AK days. Old stomping ground, must revisit if the kauri dieback lets us!

Nice and easy for the majority of the run - slip track has bit of elevation. Nice to come back via Beveridge Tk.
