There are a few different routes to take, but all are well signed and colour coordinated, I run on my own up there, never have I had an issue with getting lost, it is very clear and easy to follow, you do run very close to the cliff edge but again it is all clearly marked out.
Bird life is awesome, lots of history, amazing views and scenery
If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.
Lots of parking at the located car park. Never had a problem with safety, there seems to be people working around the area keeping a good eye out

If I can find my way around anyone can!!! The signs are beautifully clear, everything up there is well maintained
Patchy.
Waterproof leggings, Seam-sealed waterproof jacket, Windproof jacket, Beanie/thermal headwear, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map
There are water fountains around the area
Could become very muddy in places and slippy on the steps and boardwalks after down pours
You do have to take care, its very distracting because its so beautiful, but you have to stay focused lots of tree routes out to get you, some low lying branches that could cause a bit of damage, lots of steps and board walks that could become slippy, some tough down hills but there are some bloody good down hills to that are great fun, I did also appreciate that I had my good trail shoes on, so I wouldn't advise road shoes

Due to major treefall it looks like Auckland Council is currently rerouting the start of the track linking to the Perimeter Track. You may find yourself accidentally picking through a half finished section. Post the 2023 storms, the first major downhill is also not very runnable. It's currently very muddy and slippery. Depending on whether you prefer to slip and slide up or down will dictate whether you run this in reverse to the gpx file (although the gpx is really not needed). Either way, wear your grippiest shoes!! Bonus of going in reverse is having the legs to do the fantastic runnable bits - I will try to remember that next time! The Auckland Council sign at the top of the first hill advising that the next section of the track is more of a tramping track is not wrong!!

Nice little trail network close to Auckland. Ran in late July 2019 - mostly groomed trails with boardwalks and gravel, so mud really wasn't an issue in the winter. Lengthen it out by linking a few tracks and doing a few loops.

Loved this place. Just beautiful. Gate doesnt open until 6am so be too early or you will be left waiting like me (you can car before gate so its not really an issue). I managed to extend my run to over 8km by going around the campground. Definitely would do the loop again if wanted more time on feet. Lots of stairs and quite rooty so I didnt get much actual running done, but still enjoyable!
