Christchurch is extraordinarily lucky that is visionary forefathers saw the need to put aside the wide green expanse that is Hagley Park right in the centre of town. Its an amazing resource and is different in every season.

This run is as good a 10km as you can get here and takes in all the bits, South Hagley, Botanic Gardens, North Hagley, Little North Hagley and the peaceful flow of the Avon River as it loops its way around town.

There might be no vertical of note here, but some days you feel like you could run forever around here, especially round the river and Botanical Gardens sections

A great morning time/ lunchtime/ anytime exploration of everything Hagley Park has to offer. Arguably the most photographed and famous park in New Zealand

If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.

Best parking is at the Botanic Gardens off the Armagh bridge, but can be busy here on weekend. Lots of other options around the surrounds of Hagley, but may be metered.

Generally good.

Plenty of drinking fountains

Some trails greasy after rain. Can get pretty chilly on those cold frosty mornings.

All over town, too many to list here

Trail Reviews

Great way to see lots of the park, I hadn’t seen before. Ran beside the footpath on the grass to make it majority trail. Combined it with the perimeter run to add some distance. Great runnable trail.

A very slow drive into the city around school drop off time, was made even better by the awesome run in and around the park.

Always a good run near the CBD. Nice flat run and most were sheltered by the trees. The red lights at the top of the loop can be annoying. Hagley is a great place for training, lots of different options and easy to make up the distance depending on your training needs.

Great route to have when you don't know Christchurch, meant a good lap of Hagley without getting lost or ending up in the wrong direction but getting a good length in place still. Follow the GPS trail and you will be fine :-D
