The Montgomery Spur was recently generously gifted to the public and has been developed primarily as a mountain bike trail so far. But the trail is also nice to run as a short loop off the main Rapaki Track Head up Rapaki from the road on a steady climb until it levels out. Shortly after a gate your spot the Montgomery track on the left. Take this on a couple of switchbacks up hill and you'll see a mountain bike cattlestop with a "No Entry" sign. This is for the bikers and is actually the recommended way to run the loop (clockwise) as you'll see all the bikes coming the in front of you- there's always plenty of room to get out of the way and let them through. The loop itself is about 3km and entirely fast runnable. The views are fantastic. Return back to the start with a fast decent down Rapaki again, or you could extend the run with one of the many options further up hill.
Wonderful views across central and Eastern Christchurch

Usually a gap or two but sometimes you'll need to be down the bottom of the hill

Easy.
Best to take the loop clockwise as per the description
Perfect throughout.
Seam-sealed waterproof jacket, Windproof jacket, Whistle, First aid kit, Cellphone, Map
Fill up before you start
Its pretty exposed up here to any wind so pack a jacket if the Nor Easter or Southerly is going
Watch for bikes, they have right of way on the loop

Nice loop near town. Very runnable albeit a grunt for the first 2km!
I'll definitely be back.

I have done this loop a bunch on my MTB; to be honest, the whole time I was running it I was thinking "I'd rather be on my bike," haha! Nice views, very runnable, short and sweet, what's not to like?

These overlap with this trail to some degree. You may wish to combine them but please note that to qualify for FKTs on these runs you should record a separate activity for each.
