The Te Kuru Wetland is a fabulous new trail and wetland addition to Southwest Christchurch.

Part of the flood protection scheme this area has been heavily planted with native species and has become a bird haven with a great wee series of trails. This run gets you a nice cruisy 5km with great views of water, flora, fauna and the nearly Port Hills.

You can start/ finish at several locations but this route starts you at the main carpark on the southern side of the reserve, Head out around the eastern fringe around the lake to a bridge. Cross this bridge and loop the newest northernmost part of the wetland (at time of publishing, there are more extensions likely in the future).

Complete the loop then head west along the obvious trail before hitting Sutherland Road where you cross the small waterway and begin the return back to the beginning.

Adjacent Port Hills, great birdlife and major native regeneration project.

If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.

No buses as yet. But its not far from the Westmorland or Halswell bus services.

Trail Reviews

Lovely flat dog-friendly trail! Will be back with the kid in the pram too once the fence is clear... easy enough for the dog but too hard for a pram. Just the ticket on a fine winter day.
