This might look like a short loop but the trick here is that its a great loop, and you can make this as long or as short as you like by doing repeats. Just one loop will get you 3.9km, so we've recommended 3 loops for to get you to double figures for starters. Three laps are required for FKTs on this run too!
The trail is well marked and dives in and out of native bush and open grasslands/ tussock. The wetland is an ever changing bird laden gem and is always photogenic. And if you are lucky you might even see a rare native like a White Heron (kotuku) or something similar.
There's also some interesting history and interpretative stops to understand how Christchurch started out as a swamp, was drained, and now in areas like this is being allowed to breathe again. Nice clear country like air will help the trail runners breath as well on this easy cruisey hit out.
Have fun and comment on how many laps you did, who can do the most?!
The regenerating Travis Wetland reserve is a gem, with heaps of birdlife and natural history

First time on this track and its a wee beauty, even on the 3rd lap i wasn't "board". Great track for beginners flat with a nice mix of shingle and board walks. Just be aware that the sign says the the gates are locked at 8pm but tonight the guard turned up 15mins early. Next time if i arrive for a night run i will park on the street to be safe.

Being from central California, I really enjoyed the wetlands as they reminded me of home. However I was surprised how much of the track is hidden behind a line of trees. Quite nice overall, but I had impossibly high expectations. Still, quite fun to imagine how Chch would have looked 200 years ago!
