The 33km Mountain Challenge allows you to step up from the traditional half marathon distance and test yourself without committing to our ultramarathon. The course takes you up Mt Oxford and then on a trip down to the Wharfedale Track. This race is ever-changing with terrain and scenery, and with around 2000m of elevation gain over the distance, it's a good challenge!

Starting at Coopers Creek carpark you ascend Mt Oxford. Reaching the summit you will be able to get some great photos with the 360 degree views of the Southern Alps to the South Pacific Ocean.
You follow the summit and as you begin to descend you will get to a junction - turn right here and head down Mt Oxford Route. This is quite a challenging section of the track. You will come out on the Wharfedale Track. You can visit the Wharfedale Hut at this point if you wish to refill your water at the creek and/or use the toilet.
Once back on the Wharfedale Track you will head towards View Hill. (If you have had a hut visit you will turn to your right and head along the Wharfedale Track that way. If you did not go to the hut when you finished the Mt Oxford Route section, you would turn to your left when you reach the Wharfedale Track.)
The course then heads along the Wharfedale all the way over the Wharfedale Saddle. You eventually arrive at a junction just past the base of Mt Oxford. You then turn left and head along the Koromako Track - this will take you past the Ryde Falls turnoff and back to the finish at Coopers Creek. (You do not go into the Ryde Falls - you will pass this turn off and continue along the Koromako Track.).
Ensure while on this section of the course that you are always heading towards Coopers Creek (do not take any turns back towards View Hill as this is the wrong way - you want to head to Coopers Creek as this is where you started - there is a main junction about 5km along the Koromako Track where you will turn left towards Coopers Creek).
You will enjoy some great running once you get on to the Wharfedale Track and the Koromako Track.
There are a few creek crossings and a look out to see the mountain on the final part of this course.
This trail includes the peak Mount Oxford.
Great views from the summit of Mt Oxford. The beech forest is incredible in this area.
If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.
There is a carpark at Coopers Creek - at the end of Mountain Road. This can get quite busy during the weekends so arrive early if you want the best spot. There is a toilet at this carpark. There is no public transport available.
