Start at the BMX track and head east on the Rakahuri Trail. This undulates through bush along the edge of the river, some nice flowy single trail bits. After about 4km the trail ends and you jump onto the stop banks. Neat views over farmland to your south and the river to the north.
Duck under the Main North Road Bridge after 9km and box on for another 1500m or so before turning round once you hit the houses (you could continue on to Waikuku and the coast if you wanted extra kms). Head back the way you came. Piece of cake.
The mighty Ashley River.

Nice if you want an easy flat run, but also want gravel roads, no cars and views of farmland, the river, the Port Hills/Mt Grey.
Just watch out for the head wind on the way back!

Nice and relaxed run. Definitely continue down to the beach. That makes it about 24k.

Not very hilly or rugged, but fun nonetheless. Varied scenery, but no wilderness to speak of. Lots of other little trails nearby mean you can extend your run.
