Start in Pegasus Main Street and run around the wetlands heading North initially and then in a clockwise direction turn South.
Join on to Gladstone Road and head towards Woodend past the Sports fields. Take a left onto Copper Beach Road and then left again on to Woodend Beach Road heading East. At Woodend Beach you can either Join the Tutaipatu Trail and head North or carry on to the beach access and run North along the beach. Run North past the Pegasus beach access and into Waikuku beach.
At Waikuku beach you head out West along Bridge Street and then Waikuku Beach Road and turn left on to Kaipoi Pa Road (gravel Road). Run past the farmland and grazing cattle until you reach the top end of Pegasus Town where there is a small wooden gate. Go through the gate and turn right onto Pahua Street and then right again on to Arahura Road. Join the trail that runs between the road and the golf course and head towards the Woodend sports fields. Head along the path by the side of the Rugby field, past the club house and back onto Galdstone Road. Head East along Gladstone Road (you ran West earlier) and turn North to follow back to the wetlands and to Pegasus Main Street.
Run around the wetlands and through the pine plantation where you will see some wildlife and there's a couple of look out points near the Tutaipatu Lagoon. As an alternative to the trail it can be extended slightly to run on the beach.

There are toilets and water at Woodend Beach/Pegasus Beach and Waikuku Beach and the run goes close to the General Store in Waikuku.
Some of the trails hold a bit of water after heavy rain but doesnt take too long to drain away. If you head along the beach instead of Tutaipatu trail be aware of high tide times as it doesnt leave much beach and you will end up running on the really soft stuff.

Something about the map made me uninspired to do this run, but I enjoyed it much more than I expected. As others have said, very little of the route is sealed, and the scenery was genuinely pleasant. We picked a lazy Queens Birthday Monday, and it was quiet, sunny, still, and warm. We cruised it, but I imagine this could be a fast course if speed was on your mind, given how flat it is, with hardly any road crossings to speak of. Lovely to see the care that's gone into the wetlands regeneration, which explained the number of birdwatchers in the area.
I'd recommend this trail without hesitation, and we'll do it again for sure.

Nice loop. Way more scenic and way less road than I expected. The stop banks at the end were a tough finish.

Ran this route yesterday along the beach instead of the trail. There are toilets at Waikuku, Pegasus and Woodend beach or you can run into the sea if thats your preference! Its wise to check tide times as the sand above high tide is very soft.
