From the intersection between the pool and the mini golf, follow the wide path to the right that takes you around the back of the Temuka Holiday Park, to the Torepe Fields.
Follow the trail, veering right to reach the treatment pond. Running past the pond, the trail will take you around to the left, and you may catch a glimpse of the Taumatakahu stream.
Within minutes, you will reach Domain Ave. Cross the road and run alongside the beautifully kept cemetery, picking up the trail easily visible on your left at the end of the cemetery.
Just after the trail starts again on John St, hang a right at the metal gate to enjoy a short bonus loop of the riverside trail.
Back in almost the same place you were before, cross the footbridge ahead of you, and take a hairpin left turn to enter the quiet sanctuary of the Taumatakahu stream reserve. Running this trail, you'll meander through both sides of the river, enjoying native bush, river views and birdsong. An Autumn run in this area is a real treat for the senses as you hear the crunching sounds of leaves underfoot. It is a gorgeous run in all seasons!
Don't take the bridge just before the Rayner St cul-de-sac, run past it to the set of steps on your left and continue the trail with the river on your left.
Up the stairs, cross over Wilkin St, looking out for the trail on your left. Pop out on Studholme St where you will run 600m straight ahead back towards the tall trees of the domain.
Cross Domain Ave and head left to the entrance of the domain & Botanic Gardens. Follow the drive with the rugby fields and Community Centre on your right, and take in the monument on your left with the roll of honour commemorating the men who fell in WW2.
From here, you can choose to explore more of the gardens (aviary, tennis, netball, bowling greens, playground) or continue the trail passing the playground and toilets on your left.
Run to the end of the carpark, down the grassy slope, left onto the drive of the domain campground, past the pool, and back to your starting point.
The domain features gardens, aviary, playground, mini-golf, disc golf, heated outdoor pool, cricket pavilion, tennis courts, bowling green, and plenty of parking close to the start of the run.
If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.
