An out and back trail to reach the sign and views of the Hauhungatahi Wilderness.
From the sign you could pick your own route and bush bash to make your way to the summit of Hauhangatahi. A mix of lovely easily runnable trail, with the odd obstacle of washed out trail filled with logs or scrambling down rocks. A few stretches of boardwalk totaling 700m and one veering off the Whakapapaiti track, towards Hauhangatahi and Mangahuia, a bit of boggy peat track.
Keep your eyes peeled for Whio at the bridges. Enjoy the old sign which still shows miles.
If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.
There is a carpark at the trailhead, directly across the road from the fire station.
