Such a great long-run just out of town, that can an be done in either direction. Clockwise starts with about 8km of gravel road and a steeper switch-back climb. Anticlockwise starts with a much longer 16km climb and then you come down the switchbacks and finish on the gravel road.
Start at the Dun Mountain carpark next to Maitai Valley Motorcamp. The signs are very easy to follow, however, for a little bit of a twist, go up/down Te Ara Kopiko. If you're starting from the carpark and doing the longer climb (anti-clockwise), cross the vehicle bridge at the carpark as normal, turn left as normal, but then look out for the trail on your right, Te Ara Kopiko. It's a far more scenic and fun acsent to Tantragee Saddle rather than the original route which you'll find if you just carry on past Te Ara Kopiko and turn right over the fence into the Maitai Arboretum.

Great loop and is well signposted. I did the counter-clockwise twice as i prefer the longer ascent towards the Coppermine Saddle. The only part i dislike is the road running part on the last few kms to the finish.

The start point instructions in the route description do not match the GPX at all and being unfamiliar to the area, made for a confusing start. You can probably access the start from the noted parking spot on an adjoining trail, but it is around 1km shy of the Coppermine Trail proper. After a few false starts and then driving up road I discovered that the start/finish point is from a small parking area just PAST the campground. Cross a very narrow pedestrian bridge and head up towards Tangatree Saddle Rd (track is signposted something akin to 'Maitai Arboretum Walk'). From there, the loop is pretty well signposted. At time of running (Dec 2022) there are a couple of marked diversions due to slips, but the loop can still be made, albeit with a longer gravel road section at the end. Overall a mostly runnable loop!

Great trail, awesome loop - ran it anti-clockwise, enjoyed the descent down the cut backs, only 3km to finish on the (mainly dirt) road.
