The Trek Trail & Fish ultra marathon, part of the Hotprintz Bay of Islands Run/Walk Festival in the beautiful Bay of Islands has been created to allow Northlanders to test their endurance limits in their own backyard.

This 50km Ultra starts outside the Opua Community Hall on the Paihia Opua Trail.
Follow the Paihia Opua Trail through to Te Haumi Beach where you will run beside the road and on footpaths into Paihia township. Run through Paihia on Marsden Road through to Waitangi. Cross the Waitangi Bridge and turn right running past the Bay of Islands Yacht Club, running on the grass in front of the Copthorne Resort, and through the Waitangi Treaty grounds, where you will come out on Tau Henare Drive.
Run up Tau Henare Drive until you get to Bayly Road, which will take you to the Waitangi forest and mountain bike park. Please note that the mountain bike trails are closed to runners except for during the Trek Trail & Fish 50km Ultra Event.
When you enter the mountain bike park you will be running on Te Wairoa Road till you reach the ‘Holland Days’ mountain bike trail which you will run in till you come out on Bledisloe Road.
Run up Bledisloe Road then turn right onto Te Puke Road. Stay on Te Puke Road. Once you reach the intersection with Te Wairoa you will take a left and run the entire length of the road (7km) where which will be approximately 26km into your run.
Run back along Te Wairoa and turn onto Okura Road which will turn into ‘the link’ mountain bike trail. This will come out on skyline road. Follow Skyline Road for approximately 9km where you will get back to Te Puke Road.
Turn left and descend Te Puke Road to Te Wairoa Road. Follow Te Wairoa road to exit the forest.
Run back into Paihia township the same way you came in and finish at the Village Green.
