This run includes part of the Te Araroa Trail. Some sections are a little tricky to follow due to recent logging in the area but it is marked with orange markers all the way through. Would thoroughly recommend uploading this course to your device just for the section through the pine forest

Starting at the Tutukaka Marina, head along the sealed road to Matapouri (nice hill to get you started!). There are a few corners so don't run with music if that's your preference as the cars can end up on you pretty quickly. When you get into Matapouri, run along the main sealed road until you get to a road on the left called Clements Road.

Head down Clements Road until you get the end (the end is designated by a "this road is now a private driveway" sign). On the left you will see the entrance to the trail, with plenty of signage. This initial section of the run is through pine forest that as of Nov-2018 had just been felled so some of the roadways were a bit tricky to follow. There are orange markers for you but some were a bit hard to spot.

Once you get through the pine forest you'll end up in native bush. Trail is a bit technical in some areas but still a really nice run. You'll come out onto a gravel road called Waiotoi Road, hang a left and head back to Ngunguru. Once you are on the main road, hang another left and run back towards Tutukaka where you'll be blessed with one last decent climb before a nice downhill descent back to the Tutukaka Marina.

You will pass a quick turn off along the trail to Tane Moana - Giant Kauri Tree eleven metres in diameter. Worth the stop off!

If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.

Trail Reviews

Gorgeous run, enjoyed the mixture of sealed, unsealed (gravel) and bush trails. Some nice views on the road section, and a lovely piece of the TA Trail.
