Start point is Linger and Die Reserve, off Kerry Street. Head across the park and the Shaky Bridge. Hang a right on the road and keep ploughing up the road past a few fancy houses. Graveyard Gully Road will keep going to the sewage treatment plant and 10 AC (Shit Track).

Keep to the main trail as it gets less trodden. There are a few mountain bike trails that lead off but keep going, up and up through the valley. You’ll cross through a few streams, maybe see some sheep and eventually come to some paddocks.

Cross the turnstile to the left and continue straight on (11 Ridge Line on the map). Follow your nose, and the map plus a few signs to stay on the trail. Eventually, there’s an “emergency exit” sign, supposedly for cowardly mountain bikers who’ve had enough. This will take you down to a 4WD track, sweeping to the left and down.

Continue down the valley and eventually back to the Shaky a bridge on your right.

Take care with stock, any gates and mountain bikers.

Great views over Alexandra. Real Central Otago terrain, not dissimilar to Northburn.

If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.

Plenty around the reserve or on streets near the bridge.

Moderate.

Look at the signs. Stay on the main trail. Be prepared to scuttle along some rocks, over a fence or through a stream.

Very patchy.

Windproof jacket, Gloves, Beanie/thermal headwear, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map

Some at the start but there is animals so I wouldn’t drink it.

Lambing possible part of the year.
