Most suitable for:
Fit mountain goats who are confident on steep technical (off-track) downhill descents
Peaks to be bagged:
Crown Peak (1735m) and Mt Sale (1708m)
Navigation:
Mostly straightforward, though the descent off Mt Sale requires good route-finding skills even in fine weather.
Trail Conditions
A bit of everything. Lots of single track, ranging from easy to technical; a chunk of 4WD/farm track and a very gnarly, totally off-track descent off Mt Sale.
Optional Extra
Only a few tens of metres off the track is the rocky summit of Crown Peak (1735m) – worth the diversion if you’re a peak bagger.
This trail includes the peaks Crown Peak and Mount Sale.

The first reliable stream water is not until almost 20k in, by which time you will have done a lot of climbing and slow descending. We recommend taking at least 2L with you and topping up from Brackens Gully at the bottom of the descent off Mt Sale.
