This is part of the Alps 2 Ocean trail and is very easy to follow - plenty of black signs pointing in the right directions, a few maps along the way to show your location and a very well maintained hard packed almost footpath type of trail.
The Elephant rocks are a cool feature, Aslans campsite (movie scene), Island Cliff is an impressive sight and the Rakis railway tunnel. Plenty to see along the way

There are two water points along the trail, also toilets. I wouldn't drink from any streams along the way due to being in dairy farming country
Quite muddy in spots after rain and when the frost melts

Short Black Cafe
Thames street
Excellent coffee and pancakes
