Cross Hawea swing bridge and follow a really well-formed track. During the first few kilometers, you will pass a few DOC signs, so make sure you chose the right direction (Lake Hawea). There is no other navigation issue. After 5km you will cross the main road, so be careful and continue until you are confronted bt the Lake Hawea Dam. The trail then takes a sharp dogleg right up the hill to a gate at the main road. No need to run into Lake Hawea township, just turn round and head back the way you came.

This place can be very windy so make sure you carry an extra layer to put on. Return back the same way.

The trail is great for beginners or someone who wants get a flattish, fast run. DO NOT USE HEADPHONES!!! There are many bikers and cyclist on this trail and they go really fast. You do not want to be hit by someone. The trail is good for a night run with torch too.

If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.

A good leg stretch if you like flatter runs - I don't, but the riverside trail is nice and the views roundabouts fantastic.
