Head from the carpark into the clearly marked Kilmock Bush Trail. There are quite a few short sets of steps throughout the trail, but each set has a bypass suitable for running up or down.

Complete the loop trail and as you come back out of the forest take a right turn onto a grass trail just past the Kilmock Track sign. Follow the lovely flowing grassy single track ignoring the several trails to the left, keep going until you get to a trail that goes hard right, there is a post there with "Middle Earth" on it. Head down this trail and once again ignore all side trails until you get to a patch with 3 trails, one hard left followed a few metres later by another at and angle left and one at an angle right, take the angle left (the middle of the 3) and take the short run down to the rivers edge.

Then retrace your steps to the intersection and go left again and follow the main trail.

At about 5.5km there is a trail off the main trail to the left... you will need to look out for this as it would be easily missed, turn left there and follow this trail all the way back to the carpark.

Wonderful old knarly Totara forest filled with Bellbirds and other natives, plus some wonderful grass single trail running.

Near the start of trail.

Lots of parking.

Easy.

The only point you may miss is the turn at about 5.5km to the left. If you miss it you will come out on the trail you took into the bush and miss quite a bit of distance.

Very patchy.

Long-sleeved thermal top, Windproof jacket, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map

Nothing drinkable.

The grassy single trail could get pretty mucky after prolonged rain.

Occasional tree roots in the forest and care up and down steps.
