Great coastal views out to Stewart Island/Rakiura (New Zealand's third largest Island), there is also a large balancing rock which the trail passes as it heads back uphill.

Great loop track, easy to navigate. If going anti-clockwise then you head back up from the coast past the large balancing rock. There are trail markers to follow.

If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.

Plenty of parking at the reserve.

Easy.

Patchy.

Seam-sealed waterproof jacket, Windproof jacket, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone

There is no water available on the trail, carry sufficient.

The descent down to the coast from the bush line can be very slippery after rain as the soil at this point is largely clay. Use the fence to assist in not falling.

See 'Seasonality Issues'.

Trail Reviews

Beautiful walk through native forest to a wild windy beach. Return loop through the forest was sprinkled with lots of Xmas themed decorations and children’s characters. Car loads of kids walked this part of the track totally amazed at what they discovered. wonderful to see.

Great wee loop, awesome views and enough mud to make you think of Riverhead. Just sadly quite short!
