The Kiwi Burn Loop is great for beginners or those looking for an easy training day. Mostly flat and forested, this track is do-able most of the year. It is one of very few loop tracks in Fiordland, as well as one of the few places you can take a dog in the area (with a dog permit issued by DOC Fiordland for Snowdon forest).

The track starts at the Kiwi Burn swing bridge just off the Mavora-Lakes Road. Just across the bridge a well-marked DOC track starts. About 2/3 (or 1/3 depending which way around you go) of the way you will pass Kiwi Burn DOC Hut, which sits on the Kiwi Burn (river) which the track follows for about half of the loop.

Part of this track is on the Te Araroa as thru-hikers make their way up the Mararoa to/from Mavora Lakes. For longer and more adventurous missions, it is possible to combine this circuit with the South Mavora Lake trail, the Mararoa River trail, or the Whitestone River trail.

Water is available at Kiwi Burn hut, there are also quite a few streams and you follow the Kiwi Burn itself for a while, but it's recommended to treat all water.
