Straight forward, but steep route to the summit of Mt Stevens, with the reward of stunning views on a good day. The first 2km are an old 4wd track, a bit narrow in places, then buckle in for a steep but not too technical 3.5km to the bush line.

From here the route veers to the right (north) for 500m to the trig. However to reach the true summit head west for approx 800m before swinging north for 200m. This section is unmarked but is easy to follow unless in poor visibility.

Retrace your steps, tick off the trig point then begin the descent back to the car.

This trail includes the peak Mt Stevens.

Great 360-degree views from the summit and nearby trig of the mountains of Kahurangi National Park, Heaphy Track and West Coast.

If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.

Parking for 6 cars. Unlikely to be full, but if so park on roadside nearby. Safe parking.
