Follow the path from Melva St up to Till's Lookout, then continue along to the sign for Taitua Arboretum.
Follow the path down to the arboretum entrance, then take the left path (i.e. don't go through the gate on the right, we'll come out this way later). Follow this path all the way up to the Arboretum carpark at the top.
Go through the carpark and continue along the path through the arboretum, going left wherever you have a choice.
You'll come back down through the arboretum and reach an intersection with a map board. Continue straight ahead and enjoy another smaller loop around on the paths missed the first time.
Follow the track and you'll end up at the top near the carpark again, continue along here only this time turn right after the big picnic table, and go straight instead of left at the farm forestry turnoff.
You'll end up back at the intersection with the map board and the turnoff back to Till's Lookout.
Now you can head back up that track, over the lookout, and return to Melva St.
Sweeping views of the city and Mt Pirongia, lots of friendly chickens!
Public toilets at Taitua Arboretum, also around the back of the Dinsdale Shops just down the road from Melva Street.
Decent parking both on Melva Street and at the Arboretum itself. The Number 3 (Dinsdale) bus will get you pretty close as well.
